Types of Slots and Fruit Machines
Slots have been around for a long time and have many different names in the Dutch language that ultimately mean roughly the same. Slots, slot machines, slots, videoslots, slot machines, gaming machines, slot machines; all synonyms for the slot machine. We use the word “slots” because we think this is the most common name.
In addition to the different names, there are also slots with differences in the field of technology, design and performance.
Special Functions
Many features have been developed over the years. This is a list of the most famous.
- Wild symbols - usually these are symbols that become 'wild'. From that moment on, they can replace any other symbol, making it easier to form a winning combination. So you can see them as a kind of jokers. There are different types of wilds available from the various software providers. You have Walking Wilds, Expanding Wilds and Sticky Wilds.
- Megaways - This technology was developed by the Australian software provider Big Time Gaming and is now used by various other providers. In summary, this means that additional options per payline create 117.649 opportunities to win. read here .
- avalanches - With the “avalanche feature” you get a free chance to win more after a winning combination. Avalanche means avalanche. The winning symbols disappear and new symbols fall “in an avalanche” into the open spaces. Hence the name “avalanche”. This creates new combinations. If this again creates a winning combination, you will get another free chance by means of an “avalanche”.
- Super meter - In games with a so-called basic game and a bonus game, there is a “Super meter” where points won can be saved before they are used for the bonus game.
- Buy the bonus - Before you can play a bonus game at a slot machine you must first qualify yourself in some way. If you want to skip that step, you can now buy access to the bonus game at some slots. This is called “Buy the bonus”.
- Free spin feature - When you form a certain combination (usually some free spins symbols on a payline) you receive free spins. The slot machine then spins its reels to form a new combination, but no credits are used up. Not to be confused with the free spins that you sometimes receive from an online casino as part of a casino bonus.
- Respins - Similar to the free spins feature. The difference is in the reason why your feature is activated and the amount of free spins. Re-spins can be triggered with a single symbol and consist of a single free spin.
RTP Explained
The abbreviation means "return to player" and tells you what portion of the bet is returned to the player.
When the RTP of a particular slot machine is 97%, this means that for every € 100 that is bet, € 97 will be paid out again. It is an interesting number for you as a player. After all, the higher the RTP, the more chance of winning.
This percentage becomes especially interesting when you consider the different places where you can play. With online slots, the average RTP is around 96%. In a Holland Casino this is a lot lower, namely 93%.
It's even worse at the gambling halls. By law, their slots must pay out at least 80%, and in most cases they are adjusted to that. Online slots therefore pay out the most by far. This is not surprising because internet casinos have much less costs than a gambling hall or a Holland Casino.
Slots in a Gambling Hall
Gambling halls are bound by betting and payout rules. For example, you may not use more than 200 credits (1 credit = € 0,20) per print and the maximum price may be € 2.500. They are not bound by these rules in Holland Casino or an online casino. As mentioned earlier, the RTP (payout percentage) at online casinos and Holland Casino is considerably higher than at gambling halls.
Play With a Bonus
Most online casino bonuses consist of a percentage of your first deposit and a number of free spins.
You can use both with online slots. There are conditions attached to the bonuses. These determine when you can withdraw the money that you have won with the bonus. For example, the bonus conditions state how long the bonus is valid and how much you can bet at once.
The most important condition is the so-called “wager”. “This is the number of times you have to wager a bonus before it is released.
For example, if the bonus is € 100 and the wager is 30x, you must have wagered € 3000 before you can cash out the bonus. This may seem like a lot, but in practice it still goes fairly quickly.
